Cybertecture Academy 2015

1 August – 9 August

The third Cybertecture Academy explored over a 10 day summer course in the studio of James Law Cybertecture the topics of "Technology and Innovation in Design" and "How to make Cybertecture?". Talks by professionals and interns shared with students the life of university design school experiences and real life professional life as designers and architects. Design workshops included electronics, programming, software, multimedia design, architectural 3D animation and model making. The course visited another professional innovation and multimedia firm to learn about how to communicate and design digitally. A grande finale had students work in teams to participate in a competition to design a "Cybertecture Building for making people Happy" at Kai Tak Penninsula. The projects involved architecture and technology, and the teams produced animatronic models that are robotic with motors and controlled by smart phones that they programmed with the software skills learnt in the academy. The presentation was made to a group of professional architects, academics and developers who chose the winning design. Parents and families witnessed this finale and saw their children receive certificates for completion of the course.
