Cybertecture Academy 2016

The fourth Cybertecture Academy explored over a 10 day summer course in the studio of James Law Cybertecture the topics of "Humanitarian Architecture" and "How Buildings can be Mobile?". Talks by professionals and interns shared their experiences at university and work life, and answered the questions of students about how to apply to study architecture or design. Design workshops included drawing exercises to collectively brainstorm ideas, research innovative projects from around the world and 3D modeling in the computer their ideas. The course also visited MTR Corporation to undertake training in BIM (Building Information Modeling), tour exhibition of the new express railway terminus in Tsim Sha Tsui, and a guided tour of the MTR central control centre in Tsing Yi.  Study visit was also made to real mobile pod house called AlPod to experience an all aluminum house of the future. The finale of the course was the challenge to teams to design and make "Flying Buildings". Teams were given radio control drones to adapt with their architectural models to make examples of real flying architecture which they presented at the grande finale presentation. The teams flew their models over the jury made of professional architects, developers and academics who gave them critique on their design, eventually choosing a winning team's project. Parents, families, friends and the public attended to witness this finale in the atrium of the Innocentre in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong. All participants were presented with certificates for completion of the course.
